Silicon Dioxide

Food-grade amorphous Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂) functions as an anti-caking agent by adsorbing moisture at the surface of individual powder particles, physically preventing particle-to-particle adhesion and agglomeration during storage. With an enormous internal surface area (typically 175–300 m²/g for synthetic amorphous silica), even very low inclusion levels (0.1–2%) effectively maintain free-flow properties in hygroscopic powders including protein blends, creatine, amino acids, and spice mixes. The amorphous form is distinct from crystalline silica and is confirmed safe for food use by JECFA, FDA, and EFSA.

Key Benefits

  • Extremely low effective use level (0.1–2% typically sufficient) — minimal impact on finished product composition.
  • High surface area (175–300 m²/g) physically adsorbs moisture from adjacent powder particles.
  • Amorphous (non-crystalline) form — regulatory distinction from hazardous crystalline silica.
  • Inert and flavorless — no impact on taste, pH, or chemical reactivity of the host product.
  • Approved globally: FDA 21 CFR 172.480, EU E551, FSSAI — broad export market compliance.

Common Usage

  • Protein powders, creatine, amino acid blends to prevent caking and maintain scoop-ability.
  • Spice mixes, seasoning powders, and instant soup mixes for free-flow during dispensing.
  • Powdered supplements, capsule filling systems, and tablet lubricant blends.
  • Instant beverage mixes, powdered dairy products, and dehydrated food applications.
